The latter half of the 19th century and the early part of the 20th century was a period of industrial growth in America. But limited transportation capabilities kept much of that industry localized. This was true in Plymouth as in most small cities and towns across the country. Products that are mass-produced today and shipped from coast to coast by large industries and sold by mass merchandisers once had to be made and sold close to home. This included everything from beverages and food products to cigars. The Plymouth Packing Co. was one such company that processed and packaged food products for the local market, including everything from canned vegetables to Plymouth Maid ketchup. Plymouth Maid Ketchup by artist Carol Kaufmann is sponsored by the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce.
